How Long Does Sugaring Last?

Sugaring is an all-natural hair removal method that can leave you with silky-smooth skin. But how long can you does sugaring last, and what can you do to maximize the return on your investment? Today, we’re offering our top tips to make the most of your sugaring appointments!

How long does sugaring usually last?

Most clients enjoy velvety, soft, hair-free skin for three to four weeks after a professional sugaring service. However, your mileage may vary. Here are a few considerations to keep in mind:

What makes sugaring last longer than other hair removal methods?

Much like waxing, sugaring removes unwanted hair at the root, meaning that each shaft must regenerate entirely before breaking through the skin. Additionally, follicle damage may cause certain hair strands to die off completely for thinner, finer regrowth.

Do different areas of the body affect how long sugaring lasts?

Different treatment areas generally require different amounts of time between appointments. After all, the hair on your upper lip probably doesn’t grow at the same rate as your underarm hair, right? Here is a general guide to how long sugaring results may last by body part:

  • Legs: 4 to 6 weeks

  • Pubic area: 23 to 45 weeks

  • Back and chest: 4 to 6 weeks

  • Underarms: 2 to 3 weeks

  • Face: 2 to 4 weeks

How do you make results from sugaring last longer?

If you’ve ever gotten a wax before, you may have been discouraged to notice fresh hairs appearing after only a few days. This happens because wax (and sugar) can’t remove hair that hasn’t broken through the skin’s surface. Since everyone’s natural hair growth cycle varies, it’s impossible to remove all existing hairs during a single appointment.

However, with consistent sugaring sessions, your growth cycles will begin to synchronize, minimizing those pesky stragglers and ensuring longer-lasting results.

Proper aftercare can help you enjoy silky-smooth skin for longer! Here are a few pointers to help you make the most of your appointment: Plan for 24 hours of no pool, lotion beach, sexy time, or sweating as much as possible so if your getting sugared for a vacation, plan at least 48 hours to be vacation ready!

Immediately after your appointment

Breathable, loose-fitting clothing will help you avoid painful friction following your sugaring session. You’ll also want to protect your skin from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Try not to touch the treatment area, which can introduce harmful bacteria. Use a cool compress to minimize redness and inflammation.

After 24 hours

Continue treating your skin with extra care in the following days. Skip the gym, avoid friction, and keep the area cool and out of the sun. Stick to a gentle cleanser and fragrance-free moisturizer. If you must go outside, wear protective clothing to shield your skin from the sun.

After 48 hours

Once you reach the 48-hour mark, gently exfoliate the treatment area to remove dead skin cells that may clog your pores and cause adverse side effects. Begin exfoliating every other day daily for best results. At this point, you can (and should!)  moisturize daily using jojoba oil, all natural shea butter or you can look into a bikini oil.introduce a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF rating to your morning skincare routine.

By now, you should be well on your way to fully healed skin, but it’s best to hold off on swimming and other activities that could put you in contact with harmful bacteria. Talk to your treatment provider before reintroducing harsh cosmetic products and potent active ingredients.

What should those new to sugaring expect with maintenance?

If you’re new to sugaring, you’ll want to understand the necessary upkeep that can help you enjoy your results for longer.

Sugaring vs waxing

While waxing and sugaring are similar, sugar paste offers a more gentle approach to hair removal. One key difference is in the application process. Wax is applied in the direction of natural hair growth and removed against the grain.

Sugaring specialists do it the other way around so that hair is pulled straight out. This technique helps reduce the risk of breakage and damage that can cause ingrown hairs. Although you’re less likely to experience complications from sugaring, you’ll still need to exfoliate regularly and ensure your skin is happy and healthy.

Consistent schedule

Maintaining a consistent sugaring schedule will help you maximize your results and enjoy more time between sessions. Many experts recommend appointments every four to six weeks to remove unwanted hair and encourage your growth cycles to sync. Eventually, those minutes you spend with your sugaring specialist will yield more and more time enjoying smooth, supple skin.

Maintenance between appointments

You already know that gentle exfoliation can reduce the risk of ingrown hairs, but what about your skin’s other needs? Ensure you’re adequately hydrated from the inside out.

Drink plenty of water between sessions and moisturize once or twice every day. Finally, protecting your skin from sun exposure will minimize the chances of painful side effects and make each session more comfortable.
